Community vehicles share a similar concept with AMMDes, assisting with the mobility and logistics of rural communities.
KatadataOTO – The Central Village Unit Cooperative or Induk KUD has revealed plans to develop a people's car which will be supported by PT Pindad.
The vehicle line produced by PT Pindad will later target rural communities for various needs.
Therefore, unlike passenger cars, the people's car focuses on commercial purposes such as carrying cargo and agricultural produce.
Later, Induk KUD, which currently oversees about 13 million members, will become the distributor of these vehicles to rural areas.
“This people's car is not a family car, but more like a pickup truck. It's for the needs at the village level, so that production in the villages has transportation,” said Portasius Nggedi, President Director of Induk KUD, when met in Jakarta on Friday (12/12).
He revealed that this is in line with the government's desire to prepare a car that can reach more consumers.
It can be said that the people's vehicle will have a form similar to the Rural Multipurpose Mechanical Tool or AMMDes.
The presence of this people's car is expected to support the needs of people in rural areas who cannot yet own a motor vehicle due to price constraints.
“That's where the role of the cooperative (Induk KUD) comes in, to facilitate them. They can also pay for the car in installments,” said Portasius.
Portasius hopes that out of the 13 million members of Induk KUD, at least one million of them can access the people's car.
To support the smooth use of the people's car, Induk KUD will collaborate with various parties in providing a network for spare parts and service.
“This is a topic of discussion. We facilitate; at the provincial level, we have training offices. In regencies and sub-districts, we have KUDs, we provide land for workshops and others,” he asserted.
For your information, before the people's car, there was AMMDes. This line of vehicles targets rural communities to increase the productivity of daily life.
AMMDes is also used as a logistics fleet that can reach rural areas during disasters.
The dimensions of AMMDes are quite compact with a length of 358 cm, a width of 137 cm, and a height of 190 cm. Its cabin can only accommodate two people.
AMMDes enlivened the GIIAS 2018 event. The AMMDes vehicle line is claimed to have a Local Content Level (TKDN) of 75 percent.
