KatadataOTO – Polytron admits that it is not yet considering building an electric vehicle production facility in the country in the near future. This is because there is a minimum sales target they must achieve before building a factory.

According to them, vehicle sales must reach at least 5,000 units per year for production costs to be covered.

“For now, we are just starting out, so we are still utilizing the facilities of Handal Indonesia Motor in Purwakarta, West Java,” said Tekno Wibowo, Commercial Director of Polytron, to the media some time ago.

Nevertheless, he admitted to have invested heavily in building the assembly for the Polytron G3 and G3+ at the HIM factory. These funds were used for various purposes, including ensuring the vehicle's TKDN could reach 40 percent.

He also did not rule out the possibility of building a production facility. Especially since sales next year are expected to be higher than they are now.

“This year, the sales target by the end of the year is 1,000 units. Meanwhile, next year is expected to be higher,” he later added.

He also revealed that building a production facility will not be done carelessly. Location is one of the factors being seriously considered.

“The supply chain is an important factor when planning to build a factory. One of the areas we are considering is Subang, West Java,” he later added.

However, he emphasized that for now, they will still focus on developing the vehicle network, especially on the island of Java. This is because they will open at least eight outlets by the end of the year.

Of that number of dealers, four will be in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. The rest will be spread across Bandung and Semarang, with the remaining two in Surabaya.

“The concept for all of them is 3S (sales, service, and spare parts), so it is hoped that the public will find it easier to get service from Polytron,” he added.

With many dealers spread out, it is hoped that the sales target can be achieved. Therefore, it is not impossible that a factory could be built soon to support the development of electric vehicles in the country.
