KatadataOTO – The development of electric cars in the country is not only attracting foreign industry players but also local ones. One of them is Polytron, which was recently rumored to be strengthening its presence in the Electric Vehicle (EV) segment.

They have reportedly established a partnership with Skyworth Auto, a car manufacturer from China, to achieve this goal. Development will be carried out by both companies to meet the driving needs in Indonesia.

The partnership agreement was signed late last year. Reported by Chinaevs, the cars will be produced locally utilizing domestic components.

The agreement also stated that they will eventually build their own factory. The capacity is quite large, as it is targeted to produce 10,000 vehicle units in the next three years.

Unfortunately, Polytron has not yet given an official response regarding this information. On several occasions, they have only emphasized that they will be increasingly focused on developing the electric vehicle market.

However, in February 2025, Agus Gumiwan Kartasasmita, the Minister of Industry, revealed that there are actually several companies that want to build a national car. One of these groups is Polytron

"There are several groups that have expressed their readiness to build a national car," he asserted, as reported by Antara some time ago.

The presence of Skyworth Auto in the country is not too surprising, as the manufacturer is already present in several Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia. Its arrival in Indonesia is certainly an important step to strengthen its position in the regional market.

This is because Indonesia has the largest market and the government provides various incentives for investment.
The car likely to be introduced is the Skyworth K. According to the official website, the car has a length of 4,720 mm, a width of 1,908 mm, a height of 1,696 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.

The car is equipped with an 85.97 kWh Lithium Ferro Phosphate battery. With this, the car can travel a long distance of 620 km on a single charge.

Interestingly, the manufacturer has included fast charging. With this, the charging time from 20 percent to 70 percent only takes 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, its performance cannot be underestimated. The car only needs 9.6 seconds to reach a speed of 100 km per hour from a standstill.
