KatadataOTO – Rumors about the arrival of the BYD Seagull or Dolphin Mini in the country are growing louder. There has been no official information from BYD, but several salespeople have already opened pre-orders.

The BYD Seagull is one of the cheapest electric cars on the global market. In Europe, the flagship product from the Chinese manufacturer launched at a price of 55,800 yuan (approx. IDR 126.4 million).

The electric car is equipped with a 30 kWh capacity battery, capable of supporting a journey of 300 km based on the NEDC testing method.

In Indonesia, a number of salespeople are still reluctant to disclose the price range for the BYD Seagull. However, there is much speculation that its price tag will not be much different from the Dolphin, which is already sold in Indonesia, starting from around IDR 300 million.

“That's right (around IDR 300 million), but it's still an estimate. If you're interested, you can make a booking,” said a BYD salesperson when contacted by KatadataOTO on Monday (16/05).

He said that if customers are interested, they can prepare a booking fee of IDR 20 million.

Another BYD salesperson we contacted was also unwilling to provide a price range for the Seagull, which is set to launch this year.

“It will likely be below the Dolphin. But the exact amount cannot be confirmed because it hasn't launched yet,” said the salesperson.

Currently, the BYD Dolphin is sold for IDR 369 million to IDR 429 million OTR (On The Road) Jakarta.

If it comes to Indonesia, the BYD Seagull has the potential to become a new rival for compact electric cars like the Wuling Air ev and the VinFast VF 3. There is a high probability that its price range will start from around IDR 250 million.

Considering that this price range is a psychological benchmark for many first-time car buyers in Indonesia.

For comparison, the lowest Air ev variant is priced at around IDR 184 million with a range of 200 km. Meanwhile, the top Air ev Pro variant has a range of 300 km and is priced at around IDR 252 million.

The electric car from Vietnam, the VinFast VF 3, debuted at IIMS (Indonesia International Motor Show) 2025 with a price tag of around IDR 227 million OTR Jakarta.

Not much different from the Air ev, the VinFast VF 3 has a range of 215 km on a single charge.
