Despite being rumored for GIIAS 2025, the Toyota Vios Hybrid instead launched earlier in the Thai market.
KatadataOTO – Toyota is once again expanding its hybrid vehicle portfolio in the Southeast Asian market. This time, the Toyota Vios Hybrid, also sold as the Yaris Ativ in Thailand, has been officially launched.
Both standard and GR Sport variants are offered to consumers. The premium type is equipped with a 1,500 cc 2NR-VEX engine, which was previously used in the Yaris Cross Hybrid.
As usual, the GR Sport variant features a sportier exterior design and a different suspension setup, providing an enjoyable driving experience.
The engine is paired with an electric motor and a 0.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, claimed to produce 111 hp.
The Toyota Vios Hybrid is also claimed to offer good fuel efficiency for its users, at 29.4 km/liter.
“Electric cars are expanding the xEV market, but when it comes to practicality, we believe hybrid cars will continue to play an important role in global trends,” said Noriaki Yamashita, President of Toyota Motor Thailand, in his official statement quoted on Sunday (24/08).
He further emphasized that the Yaris Ativ Hybrid is locally assembled and contains 65 percent local components, a figure that will increase over time.
Thailand was chosen as the launch location for the Toyota Vios Hybrid for a reason. The Yaris Ativ sedan is one of the most popular products in Japan for the T-badged manufacturer.
