KatadataOTO – After its appearance at GIIAS 2025, the electric car Suzuki eVitara will begin mass production in India on August 26, 2025.

For your information, the Suzuki eVitara is the first electric car from the Japanese manufacturer.

The Indian-made Suzuki eVitara will not only be sold domestically but will also meet export demands.

Suzuki even mentioned that more than 100 countries will be export targets for the eVitara.

“The Suzuki eVitara, our first electric car, will be assembled at the Gujarat facility and exported to more than 100 countries, including Europe and Japan,” said Toshihiro Suzuki, President and Representative Director of Suzuki in an official broadcast, quoted Wednesday (27/08).

Not only will they produce electric cars, Toshihiro mentioned that their factory in India will also produce lithium-ion batteries for Suzuki's hybrid vehicle line.

This is in line with the Make in India program launched by the Indian government.

“We remain committed to supporting the vision of achieving sustainable green mobility and contributing to progress in India,” said Toshihiro.

In more detail, the batteries in question are made by TDSG, a joint venture between Suzuki, Toshiba Corporation, and Denso Corporation.

The Future of the Suzuki eVitara in Indonesia

The Suzuki eVitara will be the first Electric Vehicle (EV) brought into the country by PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS).

However, Suzuki has not clearly confirmed whether the model will have Completely Knocked Down (CKD) status or be locally assembled in the future.

If public interest is high, there is a strong chance Suzuki will consider assembling the eVitara at their domestic facilities.

But as a start, the units sold in Indonesia next year will indeed be fully imported or Completely Built Up (CBU).

“This is (related to) volume as well, how the (consumer) response is, and so on,” said Shodiq Wicaksono, Managing Director of PT Suzuki Indomobil Motor (SIM) in Tangerang some time ago.

Seeing the large number of export destination countries for the Suzuki eVitara, Indonesia has the potential to be one of them.

Previously, Suzuki in Indonesia has imported vehicle models from India such as the 5-door Jimny, Baleno, and S-presso.
