KatadataOTO – Mazda has just launched their first PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) in Indonesia, the CX-80. It is priced at IDR 1.19 billion on the road in Jakarta, available in Elite and Kuro variants for the same price.

Some of the advantages offered are its characteristics resembling an electric car; it can be charged but can still use gasoline like a conventional car.

Unlike the CX-60 which is equipped with mild hybrid technology, the CX-80 has a larger battery and can support a journey of up to 60 km without the gasoline engine.

However, when it comes to price, the CX-80 is not much different from the CX-60. The CX-60 is now offered at IDR 1.18 billion for both of its types.

According to PT EMI (Eurokars Motor Indonesia), this is Mazda's strategy to reach various types of consumers in the country.

“Indeed, it is specific to a certain target consumer, like the 3,300 cc (CX-60) is for enthusiasts (Mazda lovers) who enjoy hearing the roar of the CX-60 engine,” said Ricky Thio, Chief Operating Officer of PT EMI in South Jakarta some time ago.

Mazda also presents the newest CX-60 Pro type with a 2,500 cc engine priced around IDR 800 million, claimed to be suitable for consumers who need an efficient vehicle for urban use.

Meanwhile, the IDR 1.18 billion CX-60 variant carries a 3,300 cc inline-six engine complete with a turbo.

The presence of the CX-80 PHEV is expected to add another SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) option for consumers in the country. Therefore, it is not a replacement for the CX-60 in the Indonesian market.

“Because the CX-80 has a 2,500 cc engine and is a PHEV, its efficiency is certainly different. Meanwhile, the 3,300 cc CX-60 is more about thrill and excitement, the tax is also definitely different,” he asserted.

For your information, the Mazda CX-80 PHEV was launched on January 22, 2024. Although it is an SUV, Mazda revealed that their newest product offers comfort similar to an MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle).

Its size is slightly larger than the CX-60; in detail, its L x W x H dimensions are 4,990 mm x 1,890 mm x 1,713 mm.

The performance produced is also capable. On paper, the CX-80's e-Skyactiv PHEV engine is claimed to be able to produce 322 hp and 500 Nm of torque, delivered to all wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
