KatadataOTO – The price war happening among electric car brands has received special attention from the Chinese government. The country's top officials believe the situation could threaten the nation's economic growth, so manufacturers must do something.
If the price war continues, it is not impossible that the government will intervene directly. If this becomes a reality, it will certainly put pressure on the industry.
Moreover, several Chinese officials have proposed changing the law to limit manufacturers from setting prices too low. This way, the price war could end.
Reported by Carscoops, Xi Jinping, the President of China, has on several occasions issued warnings about the dangers of ‘involution’. A situation where industry players invest heavily but only get small returns and profits.
Although not specified in detail, many have revealed that the warning applies to various industrial sectors, including AI and automotive. Especially since several vehicle manufacturers have already been hit hard.
One of them is Neta, which was rumored to be going out of business. Fortunately, they have recently been reported to have received new investment to continue surviving in the market.
It cannot be denied that Chinese car manufacturers are currently very aggressive in developing the market. They offer various attractive advantages, including affordable prices that have never been offered by automotive companies from competitor countries.
The BYD Atto 1, for example, is sold in Indonesia for Rp 195 million. This price tag is even cheaper than the Honda Brio Satya E CVT, which is Rp 202.5 million.
The car is claimed to be an option for those who want to buy their first EV. The low price is expected to be a major attraction.
The BYD Atto 1 is equipped with battery options of 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh. Each offers a range of 300 km and 380 km, respectively.
The manufacturer has equipped it with an electric motor producing 55 kW or 73 hp and 135 Nm of torque. Thanks to this, the vehicle can accelerate from a standstill to 50 km/h in 4.9 seconds, while its maximum speed is 130 km/h.
Interestingly, the car is already equipped with both AC (Type-2) and DC (CCS-2) charging. Thanks to this, the owner only needs 30 minutes to charge from 30 to 80 percent.
