KatadataOTO – Mazda is believed to be discontinuing the sale of several of its models in Indonesia, namely the Mazda 6 Sedan and Estate.

It is known that the production of both models was halted some time ago. So it's just a matter of time before the Mazda 6 Sedan and Estate bid farewell to Indonesia.

Before that, the MX-30 electric car also took a similar step. Marketed for a short time and in limited numbers, Mazda's first Electric Vehicle (EV) in Indonesia also had its sales discontinued.

However, Mazda does not deny that plans to introduce electrified models in the country still exist, although it is not a priority.

The two electric car models that are strong candidates are the Mazda EZ-6 sedan and the Mazda EZ-60 Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

It should be noted that these two products were initially produced with Chinese consumers as the primary target.

Consumer response to Mazda's electric cars has been quite positive. The Japanese manufacturer has also decided to start offering both the Mazda EZ-6 and EZ-60 to the global market.

“Perhaps, yes. As I see it, for Mazda (consumers), an EV could be an option,” said Ricky Thyo, Chief Operating Officer of PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI), when met in Jakarta recently.

The Mazda EZ-6 electric car has the potential to be the successor to the Mazda 6 Sedan in Indonesia. Ricky claims that sedans still have a following in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the EZ-60 could be a replacement for the MX-30. Domestically, the product falls into the same segment as the Toyota bZ4X.

However, Ricky emphasized that Mazda will not become a brand that only focuses on marketing electric cars, although it is undeniable that competition in the electrification line is getting fiercer in the country.

“The important thing is that the car must not lose its characteristic features. Because Mazda is a brand that is loyal to Mazda Lovers (consumers),” Ricky emphasized,

For your information, the Mazda EZ-6 is also marketed under the name Mazda6e BEV for European consumers. The model is a result of a collaboration with the Chinese manufacturer, Changan.

At a glance, its design is reminiscent of the Mazda 6 Sedan. It just appears more modern and sleek, with the minimalist style typical of electric cars.
