KatadataOTO – The construction process of the electric car factory for VinFast is still ongoing. This facility is targeted to be operational soon.
According to the Vietnamese manufacturer, their production facility in Subang, West Java, is part of VinFast's commitment to building an Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem.
“The construction is proceeding smoothly and is on track, according to the plan. We expect the factory to be operational by the end of 2025,” said Kariyanto Hardjosoemarto, CEO of VinFast Indonesia in Jakarta, on Tuesday (17/06).
Kariyanto stated that the VinFast factory in Subang will have a production capacity of up to 50,000 electric cars per year.
However, in the initial phase, the factory will not immediately reach the maximum figure mentioned above.
The Vietnamese manufacturer then stated that it has already determined the first electric car model to be produced in Subang, which is the VinFast VF 3.
“Regarding the sequence of models after the VF 3, we will certainly look at the market response (in the country),” he continued.
He revealed that VinFast wants to see the extent to which their electric four-wheeled vehicles are in demand.
“So, whichever market has a large volume will certainly be our priority for local production,” Kariyanto affirmed.
As a reminder, VinFast is committed to investing 200 million US dollars (USD), equivalent to IDR 3.2 trillion, to build the factory in Subang.
The groundbreaking even took place in July 2024 on a land area of up to 120 hectares.
It should be noted, the VinFast factory consists of several main areas such as the Body Shop, General Assembly Shop, Paint Shop, testing area, and others.
"The target this year is to complete the construction of the factory in Subang, that is the most important thing," said Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, on a separate occasion.
For your information, the factory in Subang will become VinFast's production base for right-hand drive vehicles. It is also expected to help the government's target of achieving carbon neutrality.
It is also expected to create many new jobs. It will be able to absorb 1,000 to 3,000 workers.
On the other hand, VinFast is also trying to provide more facilities for its electric car users.
One of these is by targeting the creation of 30,000 charging stations, 500 workshops, and 100 dealers in Indonesia in the coming years.
