VinFast will import 15,000 vehicle units in 2025. Next year, they will be required to be in CKD (Completely Knocked Down) status or locally assembled.
KatadataOTO – The government will stop tax subsidies for imported electric cars at the end of 2025. Several manufacturers are currently still enjoying the incentives.
Besides BYD, there is a brand from Vietnam, namely VinFast. In Indonesia, they are recorded as marketing five electric car models for consumers.
Not only as a passenger vehicle, one of its products, the VinFast e34, is used as a fleet for the Green SM online taxi service.
As one of the beneficiaries of the imported electric car incentives, VinFast is required to locally assemble its vehicles starting in 2026.
Referring to Gaikindo data, throughout the January-September 2025 period, VinFast has imported 15,168 vehicle units.
Among the five models, the VinFast e34 contributed the largest number, reaching 9,187 units. This is not surprising considering the model is supplied for the Green SM fleet.
Another product that recorded high import figures is the VinFast VF 3 with 3,185 units.
Unlike other VinFast models, the VF 3 has the most compact size, a boxy design, and is only equipped with three doors.
This makes the VinFast VF 3 an attractive option for consumers alongside other small electric cars like the Wuling Air ev or Seres E1.
The newest electric car from the V-logo manufacturer is the VinFast VF 7. A total of 208 units of the VF 7 with Completely Built Up (CBU) status have been distributed domestically.
On a monthly basis, VinFast's import figures reached a record high in August 2025 with 4,589 units.
Meanwhile, in September 2025, it dropped by 60.8 percent to 1,796 units. The VinFast e34 remains the main contributor.
In 2026, VinFast needs to locally assemble electric cars corresponding to the number imported in 2025. The figure reaches thousands of units.
Regarding the factory, a VinFast representative previously revealed that their assembly facility in Subang, West Java, will soon be completed.
At the end of the year, VinFast will begin trial production of vehicles before mass production in the first quarter of 2026.
The VinFast VF 3 will be the first model to be locally assembled, given its positive trend and its role as the backbone of their domestic sales.
