KatadataOTO – VinFast has invested in Indonesia and has a factory in the Subang area, West Java. The facility will be used to assemble several electric vehicle models, starting with the VF 3.

However, VinFast stated that it does not rule out the possibility of using the factory for export purposes, especially to countries with a Right Hand Drive (RHD) configuration.

Currently, the VinFast factory's capacity is known to be 50,000 units per year for the first phase.

“If in the future our analysis shows it is more economical to make this a right-hand drive production base, we will certainly proceed,” said Kariyanto Hardjosoemarto, CEO of VinFast Indonesia, when met in Tangerang recently.

Karry continued that the VinFast assembly facility in Subang is quite large. Therefore, its production capacity can still be expanded beyond 50,000 units per year in the future to meet various needs.

However, he revealed that VinFast's current focus is on the domestic market first.

VinFast is one of the brands utilizing electric car incentives for imports and is required to conduct local assembly in 2026, corresponding to the number of units imported into the country.

For your information, Gaikindo data shows that the total units imported by VinFast into Indonesia in the January-October 2025 period were 16,870 units.

Of this total figure, the VinFast VF e34 was imported in the largest quantity, with 9,187 units. This model is used as the fleet for the Green SM online taxi service.

In second place is the VF 5 electric car with 3,958 units, and the most compact model, the VF 3, with 3,185 units.

Therefore, in 2026, VinFast must carry out local assembly for the same number of units as their total imports throughout this year.

VinFast has confirmed that the model to be produced as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) for the first time next year will be the VF 3.

This will then be followed by other models sold by VinFast, such as the VF e34, VF 6, and VF 7.
