KatadataOTO – PT SGMW Motor Indonesia (Wuling) inaugurated the Magic battery production line in the supplier park area at the Wuling Motors factory, Cikarang. This facility is proof of the company's commitment to developing electric vehicles in the country.
The construction of the battery production line has cost Rp 87 billion and is expected to complete the ecosystem of electric cars in the country. Moreover, Wuling has also produced EV vehicles with various models.
“SGMW is one of the pioneers in supporting electric vehicle regulations and also the domestic component level (TKDN) requirements. This local battery production will be used for the Wuling CloudEV and BinguoEV,” said Andrin Adhitama, Manager Operation Battery Line of Wuling Motors in his press release.
Wuling's Magic battery production will go through five stations. The process starts at the Cell Stacking Station, where components are arranged and assembled into the battery housing.
The next phase is the Charging Station to test the battery for optimal performance and safety during charging and discharging. Finally, the Rear Pack Station is for weighing, packing, and storing before being distributed to electric car production.
Of all the processes, the Welding Station receives more attention because it is tasked with connecting the battery cells and the electric vehicle's battery harness through two main workstations, namely Busbar Welding and Collecting Wire Harness Welding.
Busbar Welding uses laser technology as a heat source for welding between battery cells. Meanwhile, in the Collecting Wire Harness Welding Island, welding is done between the battery cells and the harness cable.
Both workstations operate robotically using an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV). Thanks to this, the work will be more efficient yet still accurate.
The Magic Battery has integrated various technologies to produce maximum performance and safety. This is because all cells have been given extra protection through a ceramic layer.
This advantage is combined with a High Precision Battery Management System and Cloud-based AI to monitor the battery's condition in real-time.
“With this facility, Wuling is better prepared to face the increasingly competitive automotive market. In addition, we can also ensure the availability of spare parts for electric car batteries,” emphasized Guan Hong, VP of Purchasing, Quality and Engineering at Wuling Motors.
