KatadataOTO – Xpeng has finally officially arrived in Indonesia, partnering with Erajaya Active Lifestyle. The Chinese manufacturer is optimistic about becoming a new choice for the premium electric vehicle market in the country.
The choice of Erajaya Active Lifestyle as the domestic partner is quite noteworthy, as the company has been better known in the telecommunications industry.
“Xpeng was looking for a partner with a similar vision and dream, and Erajaya Active Lifestyle is the right partner for us in the local market,” said Brian Gu, Vice Chairman and President of Xpeng, this afternoon (28/02).
Meanwhile, Erajaya Active Lifestyle emphasized that they have had considerable experience in developing domestic business.
“Our understanding of the local market and strong commitment to innovative brands make us the ideal partner for Xpeng's growth in Indonesia,” affirmed Djohan Sutanto, CEO of Erajaya Active Lifestyle.
As a first step, they will be present with two models, namely Xpeng X9 and G6. Both will be produced in Indonesia using the production facilities of PT Handal Indonesia Motor in Purwakarta, West Java, starting mid-year.
“We cannot yet announce the production capacity and price as they are still being calculated,” Djohan later stated.
It should be noted that the Xpeng G6 will enter the rather crowded EV SUV segment in the country. This car is claimed to be designed for comfortable use in urban areas due to the various features embedded within it.
This model is equipped with an 87.5 kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery, allowing it to travel up to 570 km (WLTP).
Additionally, they are also bringing the Xpeng X9, which will compete in the premium EV MPV segment, challenging the Denza D9.
Inside, the Xpeng X9 emphasizes a luxurious feel and includes a small refrigerator to cool or heat food and soft drinks.
In the second row, Xpeng has embedded a large 21.4-inch home entertainment screen accompanied by 23 Xopera speakers to support the in-cabin entertainment system.
The embedded battery is a 101.5 kWh NMC, enabling it to travel up to 575 km (WLTP).
