KatadataOTO – Chinese electric car manufacturer, Xpeng, has brought two electric vehicle models for Indonesian consumers.

It should be noted that for the first phase, only one model will be locally assembled via SKD (Semi Knocked Down), namely the MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) X9.

According to a representative from Xpeng Indonesia, there are several reasons behind this decision.

“It requires an investment, the kits and special tools are a priority. Then, no less important is the assembly manpower,” said Hari Arifianto, VP of Marketing for Xpeng Indonesia in West Jakarta, Friday (04/07).

The X9 can be considered Xpeng's flagship model in the country. Consumers in the premium segment are said to be interested in the luxury MPV.

Hari further revealed that the workforce that will assemble the X9 is currently being trained in China first.

“So we bring the (assembly workforce) there first, and then if needed, the team from China will also come to Indonesia,” Hari explained.

Then, according to Hari, the assembly tools for the X9 and G6 are different. Therefore, Xpeng Indonesia will perform SKD on the model that is now ready.

Then according to Hari, the Xpeng X9 has a higher complexity. Therefore, it is prioritized for local assembly.

“In other words, if the complex one, the X9, is ready, it will certainly be easier to add more variants,” Hari emphasized.

He confirmed that the Xpeng G6 is also scheduled to be assembled at the PT HIM (Handal Indonesia Motor) facility. However, he could not yet reveal the timeline.

“It can't be disclosed yet, it's still too early. We are focusing all our efforts on optimizing the Xpeng X9 first,” he said.

The Xpeng X9 electric car fills the premium MPV segment, with the potential to become a strong rival to the Denza D9. In terms of price, it is also not much different, in the range of Rp 990 million to Rp 1.09 billion.

Meanwhile, the SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) G6 has one type, the Standard Range. That model is sold for Rp 599 million OTR (On The Road) Jakarta.
