KatadataOTO – The two-wheeled vehicle industry in Indonesia is getting a bit of fresh air. New motorcycle wholesales in the domestic market increased in May 2025.

Citing the official website of the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) on Wednesday (11/06), last month there were 505,530 units sent from factories to dealers.

Upon further inspection, the number increased by 24 percent compared to April 2025.

This is because one month earlier, wholesales of new two-wheeled vehicles in the country were only around 406,691 units.

Meanwhile, when compared to May 2024, wholesales of new motorcycles last month saw a slight correction, namely 0.06 percent from 505,670 units.

Then, if accumulated, from January to May 2025 or the first five months of this year, there were 2,595,303 two-wheeled vehicles.

The figure above is down 2.4 percent compared to the same period last year, which was 2,659,896 units.

There is a difference of up to 64,593 units from that achievement. Therefore, manufacturers must work extra hard again.

On the other hand, export performance also saw an increase. In May 2025, 49,618 units of two-wheeled vehicles were recorded as completely built up (CBU).

That export achievement jumped by 29.7 percent compared to April. Considering the previous month only had 38,254 units.

Even when compared to export data in May 2024, last month's figure also rose by 4.5 percent from 47,449 units.

Although not yet satisfactory, the achievement above could be a positive signal for the two-wheeled vehicle industry to rebound.

However, the obstacles until the end of the year will be no less challenging. Because the economic conditions in Indonesia have also not yet improved.

Thus, the public may potentially hold back their purchasing power for buying new two-wheeled vehicles throughout this year.
