KatadataOTO – The discourse on allowing big bikes (moge) on toll roads is being discussed again. Several parties are pushing for this idea to be realized.
Support has also come from two-wheeled vehicle manufacturers. One of them was voiced by Ducati Indonesia.
“That's great, don't consider it (big bikes on toll roads) a bad thing. We must look at the positive side,” said Jimmy Budhijanto, CEO of Ducati Indonesia in South Jakarta some time ago.
According to Jimmy, if big bikes are allowed on toll roads, it can have a positive impact. For example, increasing state revenue.
So the money paid can be used to build various facilities. Especially to pamper the riders.
It also has a positive effect on two-wheeled vehicle manufacturers. Because it is considered capable of boosting big bike sales.
“Ducati will also enjoy it but not by much, the biggest beneficiaries will of course be other brands with cheaper prices,” he continued.
Based on the facts above, Ducati Indonesia strongly encourages the discourse of allowing big bikes onto toll roads in the country.
“Putting aside my role as a Ducati seller, I think this is good for the nation. Because all developed countries have already implemented it,” Jimmy asserted.
However, Jimmy suggested that if the above plan is to be implemented, there must be some adjustments. For example, the government should conduct education first.
So that owners of Ducati, Aprilia, Kawasaki, KTM, BMW, Harley Davidson and other motorcycles will be more compliant with traffic regulations.
The effect can be a reduction in the number of accidents on the highway. So that the discourse of allowing big bikes on toll roads can proceed smoothly.
“Yes, they should be educated, for example, when the Trans-Java Toll Road was opened, how many accidents were there. So they need to be given an understanding to get used to it,” he said.
It should be noted that the discourse of allowing big bikes on toll roads was mentioned some time ago by the Deputy Chairman of Commission V of the DPR RI.
He conveyed this in a meeting with the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Public Works, the Head of BMKG, the Head of Basarnas, and the Head of the National Police Traffic Corps.
“Just a suggestion, so far we've seen that escort motorcycles can enter. If I may say, there's nothing different from other big bikes,” said Andi Iwan Darmawan Aras, Deputy Chairman of Commission 5 of the DPR RI on the TV Parlemen YouTube account.
Andi explained that there are several considerations why he proposed allowing big bikes on toll roads. Such as the potential for new revenue.
