KatadataOTO – Yogyakarta is believed to be one of the most popular areas for people to enjoy the Christmas and New Year 2026 holidays. The DIY Transportation Agency estimates that 7 million people will enter the region.
Of that number, private vehicle users are expected to dominate, with 3.86 million people. Meanwhile, another 3.16 million people will use public transportation.
The Yogyakarta City Transportation Agency also predicts an average traffic volume increase of 20 percent compared to the daily average during the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year holiday period.
Getting to Yogyakarta from Jakarta has become easier with the presence of the toll road to Kartasura. Thanks to this, the travel time is much faster than using arterial roads.
Based on Google Maps estimates, the distance to be traveled from Jakarta (Blok-M) to DIY (Tugu Yogyakarta) is 575 km. If traveling by car, it will take approximately 8 hours and 54 minutes using the Trans-Java toll road.
This is much faster than using arterial roads, which would take 12 hours and 59 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Class I toll rate from Jakarta to Yogyakarta is quite high, reaching Rp 591,500. This cost consists of several sections that must be paid for.
However, the government provides discounts at certain times to ease travel. The toll rate discount will be valid for three days: December 22, 23, and 31, 2025.
The rate discount applies to 26 toll road sections, including 2 sections in Jabodetabek, 9 Trans-Java sections, 3 Non-Java sections, and 12 Trans-Sumatra sections.
