KatadataOTO – Throughout the first half of 2025, the automotive industry faced various challenges that resulted in a decline in sales.

Not only four-wheeled vehicles, motorcycles were also affected. However, as of July 2025, data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) shows an increase in wholesales (distribution from factory to dealer).

Overall, motorcycle sales in the first half of 2025 were still lower than in the same period last year.

According to PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM), as one of the motorcycle manufacturers, there are a number of factors behind the decline in two-wheeled vehicle sales in Indonesia.

“There are some areas related to manufacturing where (sales) have slightly decreased, with layoffs in several places,” said Octavianus Dwi Putro, Marketing Director of PT AHM in Jakarta some time ago.

In addition, he revealed that a number of regions that rely on the government budget were also affected.

“In the first half, he (the President of Indonesia) will relocate the focus (of the budget), so it was somewhat impacted,” he said.

However, he said that in certain areas that rely on commodities, such as Kalimantan, motorcycle sales were actually quite good.

He hopes that domestic motorcycle sales can improve in the second half of 2025 and match last year's achievement.

“Overall, the market decline for two-wheelers is not too deep,” Octavianus emphasized.

His party is also awaiting clarity on electric motorcycle incentives to accelerate the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles and help boost sales.

Because until now, the government has not provided certainty about the electric motorcycle incentive scheme or its amount.

“We will definitely support it if there are incentives because it is good for consumers. However, with or without (electric motorcycle incentives), we will still strive for Honda to remain present and contribute,” he said.

For your information, PT AHM projects domestic motorcycle sales to reach 6.4 million with the potential to increase to 6.7 million units in 2025.

This figure exceeds last year's domestic motorcycle sales achievement of 6.3 million units. At that time, Honda contributed 4.9 million units, with a national market share of 78 percent.

As of July 2025, PT AHM claims their motorcycle sales reached 2,827,975 units, not including electric motorcycles.

When compared to the same period last year, Honda mentioned a decrease of about two percent.
