KatadataOTO – Wholesales of new motorcycles have not shown positive performance. In fact, they continued to decline into April 2025.

Quoting the official website of AISI (Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association) on Sunday (11/05), last month only 406,691 two-wheeled vehicles were shipped from factories to dealers.

This number represents a significant correction of 24.92 percent compared to March 2025. The previous month's figure was 541,684 two-wheeled vehicles.

Meanwhile, when compared to April 2024, it also plummeted by 2.96 percent. In the same period last year, the number reached 419,136 new motorcycles.

On the other hand, if the wholesales of new motorcycles from January to April 2025 are totaled, a cumulative 2,089,953 two-wheeled vehicles have been recorded.

Again, that figure is down 2.9 percent compared to the same period last year or YoY (Year on Year). In the first four months of 2024, distribution recorded 2,154,226 units.

In detail, there is a difference of 64,273 two-wheeled vehicles between the first four months of 2025 and 2024.

A similar situation also occurred elsewhere. The wholesales performance of new motorcycles for the export market also declined.

Throughout April 2025, manufacturers in Indonesia were only able to ship 38,254 units to several neighboring countries.

Upon closer inspection, there is a difference of 11,744 new motorcycles, or 23.48 percent, from the previous month. This is because in March 2025, the number successfully reached 49,998 units.

However, when compared to April 2024, wholesales of new motorcycles for the export market were 16.89 percent higher. Last year, there were only 32,725 units.

A number of factors are said to be obstacles to new motorcycle wholesales in the country in 2025, such as economic conditions and the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar.

Of course, if the above conditions persist for a long time, it will have a bad or negative impact on the two-wheeled vehicle market in Indonesia.
