KatadataOTO – More than 1 million motor vehicles in DKI Jakarta have not had their annual tax paid by their owners. This high number is certainly detrimental to the government as it is a source of regional revenue.

In fact, it is estimated that there is a potential revenue of IDR 1 trillion that has not been paid by the owners. Therefore, the DKI government is holding a tax amnesty to attract public interest in fulfilling their obligations.

"If from that IDR 1 trillion potential, we can get IDR 300 to IDR 400 billion during the tax amnesty program, it would be considered good," said Lusiana Herawati, Head of the DKI Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda), as reported by Antara (18/06).

The DKI government has indeed been holding an amnesty for vehicle tax in the form of eliminating fines and interest penalties during the Jakarta Anniversary (HUT) celebration. This step is taken as an incentive to increase public awareness in paying taxes on time.

"Actually, this amnesty program is to target vehicles that have not re-registered and paid their taxes," she later said.

Meanwhile, Pramono Anung Wibowo, Governor of DKI Jakarta, emphasized that the tax exemption on the 498th Jakarta Anniversary (HUT) is not for people who are negligent in paying taxes.

"So the amnesty is not given to those who don't pay taxes. The convenience is provided for those who want to fulfill their obligations as citizens on that day," said Pramono some time ago.

It was previously reported that the amnesty for Jakarta vehicle tax has started since Saturday (14/06). The program will end on August 31, 2025.

In this program, administrative sanctions in the form of interest arising from late payment of taxes owed or fines will be eliminated. So people do not have to pay too much.

Interestingly, the public does not need to apply to get this policy, as it is given automatically by the system when making a payment.

It is recommended for taxpayers who want to take advantage of this policy to manage their arrival time. As long queues are expected.
