Expect Traffic Jams: Traffic Diversions During Monorail Pillar Demolition

179,663 vehicles have returned to Jabodetabek after the long Isra Miraj and Chinese New Year holidays, causing congestion.

KatadataOTO – 179,663 vehicles returned to the Jabotabek area during the peak return flow of the long holiday for Isra Miraj and Chinese New Year 2025 on Wednesday (29/01). This figure is 41.11 percent higher compared to normal traffic.
This number of vehicles is a combination from four main Toll Gates, namely GT Cikupa (Merak), GT Ciawi (Puncak), GT Cikampek Utama (Trans Java), and GT Kalihurip Utama (Bandung).
“We recorded that at the peak of the return flow for the Isra Miraj and Chinese New Year long holiday, the volume of vehicles returning from the East (Trans Java) via the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate was 51,391 units, an increase of 107.05 percent compared to normal traffic, while the Kalihurip Utama Toll Gate saw 46,996 units, or up 75.71 percent,” said Lisye Octaviana, Corporate Communication and Community Development Group Head of Jasa Marga, as reported by Antara (20/01)
She also added that they have implemented traffic engineering by optimizing contraflow on the Jakarta - Cikampek and Jagorawi sections. They also placed officers at vulnerable points such as the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate and the Kalihurip Utama Toll Gate to handle disruptions.
Meanwhile, the total number of cars during the Monday - Wednesday period (January 27-29, 2025) was 528,202 units entering the Jabotabek area from the four main toll gates. This figure is up 39.12 percent compared to the normal condition of 379,666 vehicles.
The distribution of traffic to Jabotabek was mostly from the East (Trans Java and Bandung) with 126,992 (24 percent). Followed by from the south (Puncak) with 123,436 units (23.4 percent) and then the west (Merak).
In more detail, vehicles from the east passing through the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road reached 137,114 cars. This figure is up 89.0 percent compared to normal.
Then, traffic from Bandung via the Kalihurip Utama Toll Gate on the Cipularang Toll Road reached 140,660 vehicles. This number increased by 72.3 percent compared to normal.
Meanwhile, traffic to Jabotabek from the Trans Java and Bandung directions through these two toll gates was 277,774 units. The total increased by 80.1 percent compared to normal.
Meanwhile, the number of cars passing through the Cikupa Toll Gate on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road was 123,436 units, or 8.4 percent lower than normal.
For traffic from the south, the number of vehicles returning to Jabotabek from the Puncak direction via the Ciawi Toll Gate on the Jagorawi toll road was 126,992 cars, an increase of 40 percent compared to normal.
