KatadataOTO – The police will be developing electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE) more massively. One of the priority areas will be West Java.
Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), revealed a target of 500 ETLE cameras to be installed throughout West Java by 2026.
“The target is 500 ETLEs for the West Java Regional Police so that every District Police can use ETLE. Thanks to this revitalization, the public can be more compliant,” said Agus.
He also added that traffic law enforcement using the ETLE system should be prioritized, accounting for 95 percent. Meanwhile, the manual ticketing system will only be five percent.
“Manual ticketing will still exist, but the National Police Chief's policy is that law enforcement must use electronic systems for 95 percent of cases. Meanwhile, the remaining 5 percent will be manual,” he added.
He hopes that the addition of the ETLE system can make the public more disciplined and compliant regarding road safety.
“If people are already compliant, obedient, and not breaking the rules, ETLE won't need to work at its maximum capacity because road users are already compliant,” he said.
In addition, Agus also said that through the ETLE system, it is hoped that traffic law enforcement can be carried out with transparency and accountability.
“So there are no transactional dealings or bargaining. Therefore, we hope and urge everyone to obey the rules,” he said.
It was previously reported that the police are targeting to have at least 5,000 ETLE cameras by 2027. That number is a sharp increase compared to the current 1,641 across Indonesia.
The presence of these ETLE cameras is considered to have had many positive impacts. From more transparent law enforcement to reducing the number of fatalities on the road.
In fact, the ETLE system successfully recorded at least 8,335,692 traffic violations from January to September 2025. From that number, officers will conduct further checks to validate the violations.
The next process is the confirmation stage, where a ticket is sent to the vehicle owner.
“Violation validations have reached 2,297,887, while confirmations are at 480,844 cases,” said the Head of the Traffic Corps.
