KatadataOTO – The Provincial Government of the Bangka Belitung Islands is holding a tax amnesty for vehicles, the second phase. This policy was implemented to reduce the public's burden in paying their obligations to the state.
Moreover, the number of people who took advantage of the program in the first phase was considered quite large.
"Starting today, we are holding a tax amnesty for vehicles. The people are currently facing difficulties, and it is hoped that this tax amnesty can ease their burden,” said Hidayat Arsani, Governor of the Babel Islands, as reported by Antara (02/09).
He said the second phase of the vehicle tax amnesty this year is part of a series of events to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, starting Monday (1/9) until November 30, 2025.
With this amnesty, people only need to pay one year of Vehicle Tax (PKB). Therefore, he urges the people of Bangka Belitung who have not yet paid their obligations to take advantage of this opportunity for the legality of their vehicles.
"The policy was made so that people are more compliant in paying their overdue vehicle taxes," he said.
So far, motor vehicle tax has been one of the main instruments for local governments to generate regional revenue. Unfortunately, many people do not fulfill their obligations.
Whereas these funds are used for development in the region. Therefore, the amnesty is expected to motivate people to pay their vehicle taxes because no fines are imposed despite late payments.
Besides the Bangka Belitung Islands, several other regions have also implemented similar programs. One of them is West Java.
Thanks to this policy, many people are interested in paying their obligations. In fact, quite long queues were seen in several locations.
In fact, the West Java Provincial Government also waives transfer fees and vehicle taxes for cars and motorcycles from outside the province. The transfer fee waiver includes the elimination of principal arrears for late registration, late fees, and taxes for the upcoming year.
People who purchase used vehicles are now also given ease in processing the transfer. Thus, the ownership name of a car or motorcycle can be changed free of charge.
