KatadataOTO – An accident due to driver negligence has occurred again. This time, it involved a Honda BR-V and a bus carrying supporters of Persebaya Surabaya, commonly known as Bonek.

The incident occurred at KM 332 of the Pekalongan Toll Road, Central Java on Saturday (12/04) at around 05:20 AM WIB.

The Honda BR-V with license plate F 1859 MO was known to be driving against the flow of traffic for 13 kilometers on the toll road before being involved in the accident.

"The driver of this Honda BR-V had just stopped at the KM 319 rest area. Upon exiting, they drove into the opposing lane," said AKP Ronny Hidayat, Head of the Pekalongan Police Traffic Unit, to Antara on Sunday (13/04).

Ronny further stated that after leaving the rest area, the four-wheeled vehicle went through the entrance.

The driver then sped up the car at high speed against the traffic, going from west to east using the second lane or the fast lane.

The Honda BR-V then came face-to-face with another car; fortunately, that driver had good reflexes and was able to swerve out of the way.

After that, this BR-V was in a head-on position with the bus carrying the Bonek supporters, which was heading to Jakarta.

The accident was unavoidable, causing the Honda BR-V passenger to die at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver suffered severe injuries and was evacuated to Aro Pekalongan Hospital.

Ronny also explained that a number of witnesses have been questioned to determine the exact cause of the incident on the Pekalongan Toll Road.

"We are still investigating the exact cause of the accident," said Ronny.
