The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government intends to provide incentives for people who diligently pay their vehicle tax.

KatadataOTO – The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta is formulating a new policy for car and motorcycle owners.
The plan was initiated in a meeting between the Governor of DKI Jakarta, the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas), the Directorate General of Regional Financial Development of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Jasa Raharja.
“Several policies that will be implemented and have been carried out by the governor were discussed earlier,” said Agus Fatoni, Director General of Regional Finance, on the official Korlantas Polri website on Thursday (24/04).
One of the policies planned for implementation is providing incentives to people who are compliant in paying their motor vehicle tax (PKB).
Meanwhile, car and motorcycle owners who are frequently delinquent on their taxes will not be given incentives.
“It is a principle of fairness that incentives are given to those who are truly compliant (in paying taxes),” he continued.
Furthermore, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also considering the elimination of the progressive motor vehicle tax.
This step aims to improve administration and ensure more accurate vehicle ownership data.
“The removal of this [progressive tax] is being considered to ensure that the registered owner is the actual owner of the vehicle,” Agus Fatoni affirmed.
Agus also requested or advised the public to promptly process the transfer of vehicle ownership. This is to ensure it matches the actual owner's identity.
“So don't delay, and various regions have already eliminated this BBN 2 (second vehicle transfer fee),” he said.
On the other hand, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, stated that he would support all programs to increase motor vehicle tax compliance.
“The National Police Traffic Corps and its ranks will provide support because, in addition to tax revenue, we also see that police forensics from vehicle data is also important,” said Agus.
The police also intend to strengthen law enforcement regarding luxury vehicles with overdue taxes.
As a reminder, the progressive motor vehicle tax in Jakarta has increased. The amounts also vary.
According to Article 7 of DKI Jakarta Regional Regulation No. 1 of 2024, the motor vehicle tax (PKB) rate for a second vehicle has increased by 0.5 percent.
Therefore, from the previous 2.5 percent, it is now 3 percent. Then, for the third vehicle, it has been raised to 4 percent.
Meanwhile, for the fourth car or motorcycle, it is set at 5 percent. However, ownership of the fifth and subsequent vehicles is set at 6 percent.
