KatadataOTO – Accidents caused by trucks with brake failure continue to be a frightening specter. The latest occurred at the Tiban Centre traffic light, Batam City.
Based on a post from the TikTok account @Arios, this fatal incident involved several vehicles. Starting with a crane truck suspected of having brake failure, it involved one SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) identified as a Wuling Alvez and three motorcycles.
"Another accident occurred in Tiban, Sekupang Batam," the account wrote on Saturday (30/08).
It was mentioned that the crane truck with police number BP 9764 ZE intended to cross the intersection. However, the large vehicle was traveling at high speed.
Upon arriving at the Tiban Centre traffic light in Batam, the truck experienced brake failure. As a result, it crashed into several vehicles in front of it.
Meanwhile, a Wuling Alvez with license plate BP 1473 CO was a victim. The car even overturned and ended up under the crane truck.
Its condition was quite horrifying, crushed almost beyond recognition. This was caused by the severe impact of the accident.
Besides hitting the red Wuling Alvez, the crane truck with brake failure also hit three motorcycles.
Each with police numbers BP 6608 H, BP 3110 CC, and BP 3159 DE. The condition of all three was similarly crushed beyond recognition.
This fatal accident also caused one woman to lose her life at the scene.
The victim was a passenger in the red car. She was trapped inside the vehicle after the accident.
According to circulating reports, the victim suffered serious injuries from the severe impact. As a result, her life could not be saved.
Meanwhile, the driver of the red car and the motorcyclists suffered injuries. They were then rushed to the hospital by the authorities.
On the other hand, dozens of personnel from the Balerang Traffic Police Unit, along with the Batam Fire Department rescue team, were deployed to save the injured victims of the truck accident caused by brake failure.
They made various efforts to evacuate the victims. They relied on several tools, such as hydraulic cutting tools.
This allowed them to cut through parts of the vehicle that were no longer in shape, enabling them to extract the victim from the vehicle.
The police also stated they are investigating the exact cause of this fatal accident. This includes finding out whether the crane truck had undergone regular maintenance or not.
Finally, the police are also gathering information and identifying the victims, as well as the driver of the crane truck that caused the accident.
