KatadataOTO – 200 electric buses will be added by Perum Damri in 2025. This step is taken to support the government's program towards net zero emissions in 2060 and accelerate the clean energy transition.
Thus, the quality of the environment is expected to improve in the future.
“This move is also in line with the government's target to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050,” said Atikah Abdullah, Head of Corporate Communication at Damri, as reported by Antara (17/05).
She also revealed that her party currently operates at least 116 electric bus units on the TransJakarta corridor. Meanwhile, the projected addition of 200 fleets will also serve the streets of the Capital City.
“Thanks to this, Damri's total electric bus fleet will reach 316 units, simultaneously strengthening the company's position as a pioneer of environmentally friendly public transportation in the country," she said.
According to her, the presence of the electric bus fleet is quite beneficial because, besides being environmentally friendly, passengers also feel more comfortable.
Therefore, her party continues to build the electric vehicle ecosystem by collaborating with various parties. From manufacturers to research institutions to ensure the quality and reliability of the operated units.
"Charging station infrastructure is also being expanded to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia," said Atikah.
The large number of fleets already in operation is claimed to have successfully reduced thousands of kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
“Assuming each electric bus can replace a diesel-fueled fleet that produces about 1.5 to 2 tons of CO2 emissions per day depending on the distance traveled, then 316 electric buses can significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The amount could reach thousands of tons per year," Atikah explained.
It should be noted that Transjakarta is working to convert its entire fleet to electric by 2030. This target is in accordance with Governor's Decree Number 1053 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for Accelerating the Program for the Use of Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles in Transjakarta Transport Services.
To achieve this, they will provide charging infrastructure for battery-based electric motor vehicles in the form of overnight charging and opportunity charging. Then there will also be the provision of charging at depots, terminals, and other locations according to regulations.
