KatadataOTO – A fatal accident involving a truck has occurred again in Indonesia. This time it happened at the Ciawi Toll Gate (GT), Bogor Regency, West Java, on Tuesday (4/2) at 11:30 PM WIB.

The incident was allegedly caused by a truck experiencing brake failure. As a result, the driver could not control the vehicle's speed.

It then crashed into the toll gate, destroying the structure. Resulting in a number of casualties.

“Eight people died and 11 were injured,” said Police Commissioner Eko Prasetyo, Bogor City Police Chief, to Antara.

Shortly after the incident, the deceased and injured victims were immediately rushed to the Ciawi Regional General Hospital (RSUD). This was done to receive medical treatment.

On the other hand, the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate last night also resulted in damage to six vehicles.

Three of them were damaged by fire due to the impact. While the other three were crushed beyond recognition.

Unfortunately, as of the time this news was published, the police have not been able to provide the complete identities of the victims of the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate.

Ciawi Toll Gate Has Reopened

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Yudiono, Head of the Bogor City Traffic Unit, confirmed that the Ciawi Toll Gate has reopened after the fatal accident.

“There are still two toll gates that are not in use. They cannot be used yet because they are damaged,” said Yudi.

On the other hand, his team has already conducted a crime scene investigation. Then moved the vehicles involved in the incident to another location.

“All vehicle debris has been removed and evacuated. Only the water gallons are left,” Yudi affirmed.

Yudi stated that the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate was triggered by a water gallon truck that experienced brake failure.

Before the incident, this large vehicle was traveling from the direction of Ciawi towards Jakarta. Then the brakes failed right at the toll gate.

“It is suspected that the vehicle experienced brake failure, causing it to hit a line of cars that were making transactions,” said Yudi.

The police had briefly closed the Ciawi Toll Gate. This was done to evacuate the deceased and injured victims.

Then they cleared the debris from the vehicles and the destroyed toll gate structure, which was hit by the water gallon truck.

“As of now, the (truck) driver has not regained consciousness,” Yudi concluded.
