The government is advised to create a policy if it wants to eliminate ODOL trucks from the roads.

KatadataOTO – The presence of over-dimension and over-loading (ODOL) trucks on the road is still a frightening specter. Because they often cause fatal accidents.
Therefore, the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) together with the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) intend to regulate the presence of ODOL trucks.
For the first phase, they will conduct an awareness campaign first. This activity will take place during June 2025.
Afterward, the National Police Traffic Corps and the Ministry of Transportation will take action against ODOL truck violators who still dare to drive on Indonesian roads.
However, the steps currently being implemented by these two institutions are considered not yet optimal. Because they do not address the root of the problem.
“This is very dilemmatic (ODOL trucks), the real key is that logistics service prices must be regulated by the government,” said Jusri Pulubuhu, Founder of Jakarta Defensive Driving Consulting (JDDC) when met in Gunung Putri, Bogor, West Java some time ago.
According to Jusri, the price of goods delivery services cannot be simply left to logistics entrepreneurs.
This is because a price war will arise among logistics entrepreneurs. If this happens, the outcome is that they will potentially underestimate vehicle safety matters.
Jusri gave an example, company A follows all the safety parameters for all its logistics truck components. Then they offer a service fee of Rp 1 million for one delivery.
Then company B lowers their service fee to Rp 500 thousand because they do not follow or comply with the various existing regulations.
With the two price differences above, the public will tend to choose the cheaper company.
“What's the end result? If company A wants to survive, how? It has to lower (its price) and abandon all mandatory safety parameters,” Jusri asserted.
Therefore, Jusri hopes the government will create clear regulations regarding the tariffs for goods delivery by logistics companies.
So that the presence of ODOL trucks on Indonesian roads will gradually disappear from the nation's streets.
In addition, entrepreneurs will also be more compliant with regulations. And then routinely perform vehicle maintenance.
Because one of the causes of accidents by ODOL trucks is brake failure. This is very dangerous for other road users.
“Even though safety is number one, the highest economic losses each year are from traffic accidents,” Jusri concluded.
