Bangka Belitung Islands Holds Second Phase of Vehicle Tax Amnesty

A new program has been initiated, expected to help raise awareness of vehicle tax payments.
KatadataOTO – A new program will be implemented in several regions to improve tax payment compliance. One of them is a door-to-door implementation initiated by Bapenda (Regional Revenue Agency) together with Jasa Raharja, such as in South Sumatra.
This regulation is expected to raise public awareness in making tax payments, especially PKB (Motor Vehicle Tax).
In 2024, the Palembang city government has done this to encourage people to pay their taxes before the due date.
“Through social media, banners, posters, as well as district and sub-district authorities, and by actively collecting from taxpayers door-to-door,” said Raimon Lauri, Head of the Palembang City Bapenda, quoted from his official statement some time ago.
In South Sumatra, the local government also re-optimized the Mobile Samsat (One-Stop Administration System) vehicles to serve and educate the public to pay vehicle taxes on time.
It was recently known that there is a plan for a similar program to be implemented in other regions, including Jakarta.
The implementation of the door-to-door tax program is claimed to have successfully increased local tax revenue in South Sumatra Province, with a realization of 72.68 percent.
In detail, PKB revenue reached Rp 871 billion. Then BBNKB (Motor Vehicle Title Transfer Fee) reached Rp 813 billion.
Recently, the DEN (National Economic Council) revealed that the taxpayer compliance rate in Indonesia is still relatively low. Therefore, the government needs to take steps to improve this.
“For example, out of more than 100 million cars and motorcycles, only 50 percent pay taxes. So our compliance is very low,” said Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairman of DEN, quoted from Antara.
One of the proposals is the implementation of Coretax, developed by the Directorate General of Taxes of the Ministry of Finance.
Later, as a result of this policy, several economic activities such as passport and driver's license renewals could be blocked if taxpayers do not settle their obligations.
Coretax will also be integrated with the GovTech system or integrated government services. Activities such as vehicle purchases can be easily checked by the DGT (Directorate General of Taxes) even if not reported.
An integrated and digitized tax system is claimed to be able to encourage tax compliance. It also has the potential to increase state revenue by up to 6.4 percent of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) or the equivalent of Rp 1.5 trillion.
