KatadataOTO – The use of electric cars has been facing various challenges. One of them is the limited number of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU), which makes people think twice before buying an electric car.

The government is aware of this situation and plans to make various changes. This includes revising a regulation to allow SPKLU construction by third parties.

"We are revising a government regulation so that SPKLU [construction] can be carried out by third parties, allowing for rapid expansion throughout Indonesia," said Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

He revealed that there are currently at least seven companies that have built factories in Indonesia. With a production target of 2.5 million electric vehicle units per year by 2030, a mature ecosystem is needed.

The existence of SPKLU is considered very important to encourage the growth of electric vehicle use. Because with more of these facilities, the public can be more confident in using electric cars.

Not only that, he also asked investors who want to enter Indonesia to conduct research and development of electric vehicles. He revealed that the government is ready to provide incentives of up to 300 percent to support this.

"Because if there are electric cars but still not enough SPKLUs, it will certainly reduce interest in the future," he emphasized.

It was previously reported that as of March 2025, the number of SPKLUs for cars in Indonesia has reached 3,772 units. This number is spread across various regions to support the development of EVs in the country.

However, it cannot be denied that the majority are still on the island of Java. Construction has begun on several other islands, but the numbers are not yet significant.

On the island of Java, there are at least 2,667 SPKLUs in 1,645 locations, Sumatra has 442 SPKLUs in 364 locations, and Kalimantan has 217 SPKLUs in 170 locations.

Furthermore, Sulawesi has 148 SPKLUs spread across 125 locations, Bali and Nusa Tenggara have 246 SPKLUs in 167 locations, Maluku has 25 SPKLUs in 25 locations, and Papua has 27 SPKLUs in 19 locations.
