KatadataOTO – A fatal accident has occurred again ahead of Eid 2025. This time it involved a Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and a truck.
Quoting Instagram @warga.jakbar, the incident occurred on the JORR (Jakarta Outer Ring Road) toll road towards Puri, Cengkareng, West Jakarta on Saturday (29/03) night.
The incident began with an electric car traveling at high speed. It then swerved into the left lane to overtake the vehicle in front of it.
However, in the left lane, there was a stalled truck. As a result, the driver of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N could not avoid it.
“Unfortunately, it (the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N electric car) directly hit the stalled truck,” read the Instagram post from @warga.jakbar as quoted on Sunday (30/03).
According to the report, three people died. One of them was the truck mechanic who was under the vehicle.
The driver of the South Korean EV (Electric Vehicle) also died due to fatal injuries.
Meanwhile, one deceased victim has not yet been identified. There were also two people injured in the accident.
On the other hand, the accident involving the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and the truck has drawn attention from many parties.
Moreover, before the incident, the EV driver was allegedly driving the vehicle at high speed on the toll road.
“The faster a car goes, the harder it is to stop. Especially an electric car which has spontaneous power and high torque,” said Sony Susmana, Senior Instructor at SDCI (Safety Defensive Consultant Indonesia) to KatadataOTO, Sunday (30/03).
Sony further explained that driving a vehicle at high speed narrows the driver's field of vision.
Then, the faster the car goes, the greater the risk of an accident. Especially if it's done on a public road.
Considering that not all drivers drive their cars at high speed. Furthermore, not everyone has similar skills, coupled with minimal road lighting.
“This law applies not only on public roads but also on the circuit. The difference is that on the track, everything has been adjusted for safety levels, although there are still many casualties,” Sony continued.
In addition, he also regretted the action of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N user who forced their way onto the shoulder of the road.
“If you force your way onto the shoulder of the road with the intention of overtaking (at high speed) and encounter a static or stopped car, you can imagine how great the impact would be,” Sony concluded.
