KatadataOTO – The presence of Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) on the road is quite important. Because it can catch traffic violators.
Additionally, the use of ETLE is considered to minimize the number of illegal levies (pungli), given the limited interaction between officers and the public.
Based on the facts above, the Polda Metro Jaya intends to further strengthen the role of electronic ticketing on the streets of Jakarta.
“ETLE cameras in the Polda Metro Jaya area are currently spread across 127 static ETLE points and eight mobile ETLE units,” said Police Commissioner Komarudin, Director of Traffic for Polda Metro Jaya, to Antara on Monday (08/12).
He also hopes that Polda Metro Jaya can increase this number, thereby reducing the number of violations.
Then, so that police officers in the field no longer need to interact with the public when a traffic violation is found.
“So that officers on the road can just focus on giving sympathetic warnings for visible violations,” continued Komarudin.
Furthermore, it was mentioned that the police are now prioritizing appeals, and serving the community with heart and a humane approach.
Even so, the Polda Metro Jaya is always on guard 24 hours a day. So on average, ETLE cameras can record tens of thousands of violators every day.
“Hopefully, with the culture and socialization that we continuously provide to the public, they can be more compliant,” affirmed the Director of Traffic for Polda Metro Jaya.
For your information, of the hundreds of ETLE units owned by Polda Metro Jaya, 22 units are already integrated with speedcams. Meanwhile, four units are integrated with Weight in Motion (WIM).
Komarudin also detailed some data on ETLE enforcement by Polda Metro Jaya, during the period of January to November 2025.
The number of violators caught or recorded by the police was 1,816,447 units.
“Then, 1,163,111 units were validated, 463,844 units were confirmed, and 421,322 units were paid,” concluded Komarudin.
On the other hand, the intention of Polda Metro Jaya seems to be granted by the Korlantas Polri (National Police Traffic Corps), as they plan to take a similar step.
Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, revealed that the police will increase the number of ETLE units from 127 to 500.
“So there is no contact between the public and officers, making this truly transparent,” said Agus.
It remains to be seen how the above plan will be implemented, especially for the DKI Jakarta area.
