KatadataOTO – The Traffic Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police will add 40 units of Mobile ETLE cameras in Jakarta. This step is being taken to make it easier for officers to conduct surveillance in locations not covered by Static ETLE.
Moreover, ETLE has been considered quite effective in creating a deterrent effect for traffic rule violators.
"Currently, there are 10 Mobile ETLE units, and hopefully in 2025, we will receive about 40 more units from the local government," said Police Grand Commissioner Latif Usman, Director of Traffic for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, as reported by Antara.
The presence of these new facilities is expected to increase the number of recorded traffic violators in 2025.
He also revealed that the more traffic violations there are, the greater the likelihood of accidents.
In 2024 alone, the number of traffic accidents in Jakarta reached 12,555 cases. From that figure, 677 road users died and 1,794 suffered serious injuries.
“This must be a concern because, on average, two people die daily from accidents in Jakarta alone,” he said.
For the situation to improve, regulators must provide more effective education and law enforcement against violators.
"There must be an enforcer that can apply pressure and provide direct education, which is law enforcement," he then emphasized.
Specifically in the Capital City, surveillance of Jakarta's odd-even rule is also now conducted via ETLE cameras. With this, violations will be more easily detected.
It should be noted that each traffic violation will be subject to different penalties according to the applicable regulations. If the fine is not paid, the vehicle registration certificate (STNK) is at risk of being blocked and cannot be renewed
