KatadataOTO – The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has revealed the reason for not yet implementing the electronic paid roads system (Electronic Road Pricing/ERP). They claim that they are still improving public transportation facilities and infrastructure.
Even though the policy has been discussed for a long time, it has not been realized until now.
"For the implementation of ERP, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government confirms that the policy has not yet been implemented," said Syafrin Liputo, Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, quoted from Antara (07/05)
It should be noted that ERP is a traffic density control system. It works by electronically collecting a levy from motor vehicle users when they pass through a number of roads during busy hours.
This policy is expected to make road users reluctant to bring private vehicles and switch to public transportation. Thus, traffic will become smoother than it is now.
However, the current public transportation is considered insufficient. This is because the construction of the Jakarta MRT and LRT is still ongoing, so its benefits cannot be felt optimally yet.
Nevertheless, the DKI Jakarta government has also implemented various traffic engineering measures to reduce congestion. One of them is by implementing the Jakarta odd-even rule on several roads.
No less than 25 roads are affected by this restriction. The rule is also implemented during rush hours so that people are expected to adjust their travel schedules.
