FIA homologation will eventually enable the Mandalika Circuit to host car racing events.
KatadataOTO – The Mandalika Circuit began renovations in several areas on Tuesday (11/03) to meet the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) Grade 3 homologation requirements.
It should be noted that this circuit had previously passed FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) homologation, thus meeting the criteria to host motorcycle races, including MotoGP.
Meanwhile, the FIA homologation prepares the Mandalika Circuit for the GT World Challenge Asia car racing event, which will be held from March 9-11, 2025.
It was explained that asphalt cutting was carried out at several points with varying areas. The physical work is being done by the MGPA (Mandalika Grand Prix Association).
“We have already worked on several notes from the FIA some time ago, such as increasing the tire stack to six, standing tires must be laid down, and the ones laid down must be covered with a conveyor belt,” said Priandhi Satria, President Director of MGPA in his statement, quoted on Wednesday (12/03).
He emphasized that part of the work has been completed. His party is committed to ensuring the Mandalika Circuit can meet the FIA Grade 3 homologation standards.
Asphalt cutting and the addition of gravel are also being carried out. He hopes the FIA Grade 3 homologation will open the door for various car racing events to be held at the Mandalika Circuit.
“This is in accordance with the direction from our parent holding company, Injourney Holding, under the Ministry of SOEs (State-Owned Enterprises) for the tourism sector and its supporters,” Priandhi affirmed.
In the process, MGPA is sourcing gravel vendors from the Lombok area and using domestic labor.
The work is targeted for completion by April 10, in time for the Mandalika Racing Series National Championship on April 11-13, 2025.
Then after April 13, an inspector representative from the FIA is expected to visit the Mandalika Circuit to assess the work and grant the Grade 3 homologation.
For the latest information, in September 2024 it was announced that the Mandalika Circuit passed Grade A homologation from the FIM. Thus, MotoGP can be held.
This result was obtained after the FIM and Dorna Sports as the organizers, as well as MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 riders, conducted an inspection of the Mandalika Circuit track.
Not only the track conditions, but the assigned marshals were also assessed as being better and showing improvement compared to previous events at the Mandalika Circuit.
