KatadataOTO – The Governor of NTB (West Nusa Tenggara) has spoken out regarding the plan to establish a racing school in Mandalika. The hope is that this can help reduce the illegal street racing that frequently occurs in NTB.

It should be noted that some time ago, the Mataram police confiscated hundreds of motorcycles belonging to students because they were used for illegal street racing.

The owners can only retrieve their vehicles after Eid al-Fitr by providing complete vehicle letters and documents.

These illegal street racing activities endanger both the riders and other road users. Therefore, the NTB governor plans to provide a safe venue to redirect these actions.

“We are encouraging the children of NTB not just to be spectators or workers here, but to become the racers themselves,” said Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, Governor of NTB, when met at the Mandalika Circuit on Saturday (04/03).

He further revealed that his party is currently in discussions with related parties to realize the establishment of a racing school in Mandalika.

He revealed that the focus is on students or young people in the Southern region, as they are often involved in the dangerous activity of illegal street racing on public roads.

“Especially for our friends from the Southern region, so they don't race on the streets, no more illegal street racing,” he emphasized.

He affirmed that he will continue to support the series of activities in Mandalika, including automotive events, to introduce Lombok to the international stage.

“There are many events, but we shouldn't just be fixated on Mandalika. We have many destinations in NTB; on Lombok alone there are several, and Sumbawa Island—all must thrive,” he said.

For your information, the Mandalika Circuit is also often used as a venue for the education and training of young racers.
