KatadataOTO – The Metro Jaya Regional Police will implement traffic management during the International Labor Day (May Day) celebration taking place in Jakarta, Thursday (01/05). Road closures are not expected to be implemented even though thousands of people are expected to celebrate at several main points.

The policy was taken to maintain the mobility of the capital city's residents.

"We are informing that there will be a fairly large mass mobilization, so there will be traffic management," said the Director of Traffic of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Police Commissioner Komarudin, as reported by Antara (30/04).

He also added that there will be several points of congestion on a number of roads leading to Jakarta. This is because there are participants from Tangerang coming to Monas using buses via the Kebon Jeruk Toll Road.

"Then they will pass through the underpass towards Tomang-Harmoni, then to Lapangan Banteng until entering Monas," he said.

Meanwhile, labor participants from Bekasi and West Java will use the Cawang Toll Road access which leads to Cempaka Putih.

"Then they will be directed straight towards Tugu Tani and enter via the front of the US Embassy, including those on two-wheeled vehicles who will use the Kalimalang route to Cempaka Putih," said Komarudin.

He also predicts congestion on the Sudirman-Thamrin road sections. This location will be used to manage or mobilize the movement of laborers to and from Monas.

Meanwhile, parking locations will be provided in two places, namely JiExpo Kemayoran or the Benyamin Sueb road section.
"Parking pockets are also available at the East Senayan parking area or GBK," said Komarudin.

To ensure the event runs smoothly, the Metro Jaya Regional Police have prepared 13,252 joint personnel to provide security.

"In this security operation, we are involving 13,252 joint personnel consisting of 9,591 National Police personnel, 3,385 TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) personnel, and 276 regional government personnel," said Inspector General of Police Karyoto, Chief of the Metro Jaya Regional Police.

He also explained that in securing this year's May Day, his party faces complex challenges.

"The movement of the masses is not only centered in Jakarta but also involves buffer zones such as Banten and West Java. So, cross-regional coordination, inter-agency solidarity, and individual preparedness are the keys to successful security," he concluded.
