KatadataOTO – The accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate (GT), Bogor on Tuesday (4/2) night drew the attention of many parties. Not least the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub).
This is because incidents involving trucks keep recurring in Indonesia. Even within a fairly short period of time.
“In response to this incident, we are coordinating with the local police to collect data and the chronology of events,” said Ahmad Yani, Acting Director General of Land Transportation in an official statement.
Yani explained that they are trying to determine the root cause of the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate last night.
This is important to do, so that similar incidents do not happen again in the future. And do not claim more lives.
“This is for follow-up guidance by inviting all related parties in an effort to anticipate recurring incidents in the future,” he continued.
He also stated that the Ministry of Transportation has also summoned the management of the drinking water company. And the freight transport operator that caused the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate.
Then inspect safety as well as socialize the implementation of safety management at every drinking water transport company.
Especially those operating on the Sukabumi-Jakarta route. So it can provide a sense of security and safety for road users.
“Then we will also continue to provide training for drivers through education and training. Especially regarding proper driving procedures and checking the brakes before a trip,” Yani affirmed.
Meanwhile, based on data obtained from Mitra Darat, the truck with license plate number B 9235 PYW has a periodic inspection status valid until May 11, 2025.
As previously reported, the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate was triggered by a water gallon truck experiencing brake failure.
Before the incident, this large vehicle was traveling from the direction of Ciawi towards Jakarta. Then the brakes failed right at the toll gate.
“It is suspected that the vehicle experienced brake failure. Causing it to hit a line of cars that were making transactions,” said Police Commissioner Yudiono, Head of the Bogor City Police Traffic Unit.
The police had briefly closed the Ciawi Toll Gate. This was done to evacuate the deceased and injured victims.
Finally, cleaning up the debris from the vehicles and the destroyed toll gate building, which was hit by the gallon-laden truck.
