KatadataOTO – PT Hutama Karya (Persero) officially began full operation of the Pekanbaru - Padang Toll Road, Padang - Sicincin Section, today, Wednesday (28/05). With this infrastructure, it is hoped that community mobility on the island of Sumatra can be more optimal.

For the time being, PT Hutama Karya will not be charging a toll for this 36 km long road.

"Starting May 28, 2025, at 07:00 WIB, the Padang Toll Road-Sicincin will be fully operational without any tolls," said Adjib Al Hakim, Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary of Hutama Karya, as reported by Antara.

The official toll-free operation is implemented following the issuance of the Minister of Public Works (PU) Decree Number 519/KPTS/M/2025 dated May 19, 2025.

He also explained that before being operated, this infrastructure had undergone a Feasibility Test (ULF) on January 22–24, 2025. The road also obtained an Operational Feasibility Certificate (SLFO) on April 30, 2025, from the Ministry of Public Works.

With this, the Padang-Sicincin toll road has been officially declared safe and fit for public use.

The presence of the Pekanbaru-Padang Toll Road, Padang-Sicincin Section, is considered a significant achievement. This is because it is the first toll road in West Sumatra. During the operational period, users can begin to familiarize themselves with the regulations that apply on the toll road, especially the use of electronic money cards at the toll gates.

"Although no toll is charged yet, users are still required to tap their Electronic Money cards when entering and exiting the toll road," Adjib added.

In terms of benefits, this toll road has successfully reduced travel time from Padang City to Sicincin. Significantly, a journey that previously took 1.5 hours via the national road now takes only 30 minutes.

During the Christmas and New Year holidays in December 2024 to January 2025, as well as the 2025 Eid homecoming, the Pekanbaru-Padang Toll Road, Padang - Sicincin Section, was already used as a functional route. The number of vehicles passing through was very large, reaching into the thousands
