KatadataOTO – Electric cars used for homecoming trips are predicted to increase by up to 500 percent compared to the same period last year. If there were only 4,314 units during Eid 2024, this means it's likely that 21,570 EVs will be used by their owners.

This number shows that more and more people are trusting their flagship electric cars for mobility. Therefore, PLN must also prepare to meet the surge in demand for SPKLUs during the 2025 Eid homecoming season.

“PLN is ready to fully support people who are making their homecoming trips using electric cars,” said Edi Srimulyanti, PLN's Director of Retail and Commerce, as reported by Antara (10/03).

Therefore, they will prepare at least 1,000 Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) units on the Trans Java-Sumatra homecoming route.

With that, there are now at least 3,529 SPKLU units operated by PLN and its partners at 2,400 locations throughout Indonesia. In detail, the number of SPKLUs is 431 units in Sumatra, 2,448 units in Java, 166 units in Bali, 215 units in Kalimantan, 145 units in Sulawesi, 26 units in Maluku, 72 units in Nusa Tenggara, and 26 units in Papua.

Not only that, PLN will also have 12 mobile SPKLU units on standby on the Trans Java-Sumatra route. This facility will be used for travelers who run out of power during their journey.

The state-owned enterprise also advises electric car users to utilize the PLN Mobile application. This is because drivers can see the nearest SPKLU locations.

PLN Mobile is also equipped with a Trip Planner feature to help users plan their travel routes and determine charging locations.

Besides PLN, other SPKLU providers like Voltron have also confirmed that they have prepared to meet the increased demand for electric car charging. They claim to have ensured that all their facilities are in good condition and ready for use.

“We are already present in 12 rest areas from Jakarta to Banyuwangi with AC and DC charging. So, people who plan to travel home using the toll road can feel secure,” said Abdul Rahman Elly, Founder & CEO of Voltron Indonesia, some time ago.

He also revealed that his company has provided SPKLUs on non-toll routes. Thanks to this, people can be more confident when driving during the Eid homecoming.
