KatadataOTO – The 2025 Eid return traffic peak is not only felt on toll roads but also on the North Coast route (Pantura). Congestion occurring at several points has caused the police to implement various strategies to keep traffic flowing.
The Cirebon City Resort Police (Polres), West Java, even had to implement a stop-and-go system at several points. This is because a number of arterial roads have experienced slowdowns due to the implementation of the one-way system on the toll road.
“We took this step to prevent vehicle buildup on the main route, especially at congestion-prone points like intersections,” said AKBP Eko Iskandar, Head of the Cirebon City Police, as reported by Antara (06/04).
He also mentioned that a joint team from the Cirebon City Police Traffic Unit and several other agencies has been put on alert to conduct monitoring.
Not only that, they have also prepared alternative routes and directional signs to smooth the movement of vehicles from west to east and vice versa.
“Our focus is to maintain smooth traffic flow and provide maximum service to the public undertaking the homecoming journey,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Cirebon City Transportation Agency (Dishub), West Java, recorded an increase in traffic volume on the Pantura route. On Sunday (06/04) afternoon, the number of vehicles passing through the Pantura route reached 3,439 units per hour.
Andi Armawan, Head of the Cirebon City Transportation Agency, revealed that the traffic surge is an impact of the return flow being diverted to arterial roads, including the Cirebon City area. This is because the one-way system is currently in effect.
“As a result of implementing the one-way traffic engineering system on the toll road, the arterial roads have become more congested,” he explained.
He mentioned that from 00:00 WIB to 14:00 WIB, more than 82,000 vehicles moved from Cirebon towards Jakarta via the Pantura route.
From that data, motorcycles still dominate the traffic flow on the arterial road, reaching a total of 75,000 units.
“The traffic volume is getting heavier, especially this weekend, because many migrants are returning to the Jakarta area and its surroundings,” said Andi Armawan.
