KatadataOTO – Several regions are currently implementing a motor vehicle tax amnesty. However, a different step is being taken by the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta.
They intend to pursue motorcycle and car owners who do not pay their vehicle taxes.
"In the short term, people who don't pay taxes in Jakarta will face difficulties," said Pramono Anung Wibowo, Governor of DKI Jakarta to Antara, Wednesday (30/04).
Pramono stated that they have prepared several ways to pursue motor vehicle tax delinquents.
For example, when refueling with fuel oil (BBM), there will be a barcode that can read whether a person's motorcycle or car has not settled its obligations.
"When they park in Jakarta, it will also be known that their car has not paid tax. That is what I am trying to fix," continued Pramono Anung.
He further explained that, on average, the motor vehicle tax delinquents in Jakarta are owners of second and third motorcycles or cars.
This happens, according to Pramono, because many people avoid the odd-even traffic rule. Thus, they own more than one vehicle.
"For me personally, tax is about compliance," the Governor of DKI Jakarta asserted.
Pramono also stated that if the tax is forgiven through an amnesty, traffic congestion in Jakarta will worsen.
Therefore, he openly stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will pursue motor vehicle tax delinquents.
"How to pursue them? First, they will be billed, and second, they will definitely face difficulties," said Pramono Anung Wibowo.
So it's not just when parking or refueling, but also when passing through toll roads that it will be discovered they haven't paid their motor vehicle tax.
Nevertheless, Pramono did not deny that the idea being prepared would invite resentment from the public.
However, he does not care about that. He still intends to pursue motor vehicle tax delinquents in Jakarta.
"But I am thankful for that," concluded Pramono Anung Wibowo.
On the other hand, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing a new policy. Specifically for people who are compliant in paying their motor vehicle taxes.
Later, the government will provide incentives. This is expected to increase public interest in fulfilling their obligations.
“It is a principle of justice that incentives are given to those who are truly compliant (in paying taxes),” said Agus Fatoni, Director General of Regional Finance, on a different occasion.
Furthermore, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also considering the elimination of the progressive tax on motor vehicles.
