KatadataOTO – The United States, specifically in the state of Tennessee, plans to tighten the rules for obtaining a Driver's License or SIM. This is because they will enact a new law stating that for perpetrators of bullying, the document will be revoked for one year.
Interestingly, the bullying in question is not limited to physical contact but also includes cyberbullying. It is hoped that this will encourage people to be more mindful of their behavior.
However, bullies who lose their driver's license still have the right to apply for a restricted license. This would allow them to continue driving to work, school, or religious institutions.
However, obtaining it is not free, as it requires a payment of USD 20 or the equivalent of Rp 325,000. There are also other requirements to be met, such as age limits and passing a driving test.
If all goes smoothly, the court must ultimately approve the restricted license and decide in which areas they are permitted to drive. Thus, the mobility of the bully will be much more limited than before.
This policy was adopted because the state of Tennessee considers bullying a major problem that must be addressed immediately. With license revocation, it is hoped that teenagers will think twice before engaging in it.
“Bullying can cause long-term damage that results in mental health problems later in life. A large portion of violent acts and suicides are recorded as a result of such cases,” said Lowell Russell, a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, as reported by Carscoops (09/07).
Meanwhile in Indonesia, a driver's license can also be revoked by the police. However, this can only be done if the owner commits a serious traffic violation.
One such case is a traffic accident that results in a fatality. But the perpetrator can still get a new driver's license after serving their sentence and going through the new application procedure.
However, specifically for hit-and-run cases, the driver's license will be permanently revoked. This rule is expected to make people more responsible on the road and avoid traffic violations.
