KatadataOTO – Dedi Mulyadi, the Governor of West Java, once made a decision considered bold: banning public minivans (angkot) from operating in the Puncak Bogor area during the 2025 Eid return flow. This move proved to have a positive impact on the smoothness of traffic.

The Cianjur Resort Police, West Java, revealed that traffic density has decreased. Even the congestion at Cipanas Market, which is usually quite severe, has been reduced.

"The Governor of West Java issued a policy for public minivans in the Cipanas area not to operate during the 2025 Eid holiday, and the density has decreased," said AKBP Rohman Yongky Dilatha, the Cianjur Police Chief, as reported by Antara (04/04).

He also confirmed that he had reported the situation directly to the Governor.

"Nevertheless, we continue to station officers at congestion-prone points, including in front of Cipanas Market," the Police Chief then said.

It should be noted that public minivans in the Puncak - Cipanas area were suspended for a week, specifically from April 1 to 7, 2025. For this, at least 561 drivers were given Rp 1 million in cash and a basic food package, totaling Rp 1.5 million.

The policy was implemented to prevent long vehicle queues that cause total gridlock on the Puncak route due to public minivans parking and stopping indiscriminately.

If any public minivans are found still operating or stopping in front of Cipanas Market, the Department of Transportation will impose sanctions, including temporary confiscation of the vehicle. The unit can only be reclaimed after April 7, 2025.

Although it is considered smoother, several traffic engineering measures are still being implemented in the area. These range from the one-way system uphill and downhill to the odd-even rule in Puncak, which has long been a mainstay for the police in easing traffic density.

This is done because the number of vehicles passing through the Puncak route remains high, exceeding the road's capacity. Therefore, the public is still advised to prepare their routes and schedules carefully.

This policy aims to prevent people from getting stuck in queues that can occur at any time, which would make the holiday less enjoyable.
