KatadataOTO – Transjakarta has officially operated 20 new electric bus units to improve service for its users. The vehicles were manufactured in a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) format by PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR) with a Local Content Level (TKDN) of over 40 percent.

These buses are planned to serve corridor 10 on the Tanjung Priok-PGC route and corridor 14 on the Jakarta International Stadium-Senen route.

"The production of CKD electric buses with a high Local Content Level is our proof of supporting the independence of the national automotive industry. VKTR is committed to continuously providing innovative solutions that support the government's sustainability agenda," said Gilarsi W. Setijono, President Director of VKTR, as reported by Antara (11/01).

He also added that his company is continuing to develop the industry by building a new factory in Magelang. The facility is scheduled for completion in January 2025 and will accelerate production.

It should be noted that Transjakarta plans to convert its entire fleet to electric by 2030. This target is in accordance with Governor's Decree Number 1053 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for Accelerating the Program for the Use of Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles in Transjakarta Transport Services.

In detail, the transition of vehicles from fuel oil and compressed natural gas to battery-based electric in Transjakarta services will begin gradually in 2022.

It also mentions plans for providing charging infrastructure for battery-based electric motor vehicles, including overnight charging and opportunity charging. Additionally, there will be charging provisions at depots, terminals, and other locations according to regulations.

Transjakarta Collaborates with Various Companies

Besides collaborating with VKTR, Transjakarta has also partnered with several other companies. One of them is PT Hankook Tires Sales Indonesia, which will provide special tires for electric buses.

The product is named Smart City AU06 with a size of 275/70 R225. The supply of these goods has been underway since early 2024 and they are being used on a number of buses.

Unlike regular tires, Hankook Tire designed the Smart City AU06 to meet the needs of electric vehicles, which have high torque. The company also made it to have high grip even on wet road conditions.

This is very important because the fleet will continue to operate in various weather conditions.
