KatadataOTO – The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) is intensifying the dissemination of information regarding the rules for Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) trucks in Indonesia. This activity has been ongoing for some time.

Recently, they have been relying on Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) cameras to detect violations.

A number of ETLE cameras have been placed at several points. This allows them to monitor movement and ticket ODOL trucks after the information dissemination period is over.

However, this policy has drawn many responses. Especially from truck drivers in the country.

They even held demonstrations last week in several places. Such as in Semarang and Temanggung, Central Java.

The protesters also plan to hold a demonstration regarding the ODOL truck regulations in Jakarta next week on Wednesday, (02/07).

It is claimed that this demonstration will involve 500 to 1,000 drivers who plan to crowd the offices of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub RI) and the House of Representatives (DPR RI).

Truck Dimension Regulations

So, what are the actual regulations regarding truck dimensions to avoid being classified as ODOL?

Quoting the @Korlantaspolri.ntmc Instagram account, the rules for open-bed cargo vehicles are in Article 3 of the Director General of Land Transportation Regulation Number KP.4413/AJ.307/DPRJD/2020. It explains the vehicle dimensions for bulk goods transport.

“The maximum width of the cargo bed must not exceed 50 mm from the outermost tire for dual-axle vehicles,” wrote Korlantas on Monday (23/06).

Furthermore, the bed must not exceed the cabin width by 50 mm on either the right or left side for single-axle vehicles.

Meanwhile, the maximum length of the cargo bed is also prohibited from exceeding 3,000 mm for 1.1 configuration vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 5,500 kg.

Then, the maximum height of the cargo bed must not exceed 550 mm for 1.1 configuration vehicles with a GVW of up to 5,500 kg.
