First Drive Chery Tiggo 8 CSH, Offers EV-like Driving Sensation

KatadataOTO – PT CSI (Chery Sales Indonesia) is preparing a new product for consumers in the country. Still filling the electrification line, this time their newest model uses PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology.

Chery calls this system CSH (Chery Super Hybrid). The model to be introduced is the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH, a 7-seater configuration SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) hybrid car.

KatadataOTO had the opportunity to be one of the participants to test drive the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH directly before it is marketed to customers in Indonesia.

Using the Tiggo 8 platform, the product aims to target consumers who want to experience the sensation of driving an electric car without having to worry about infrastructure.

However, there is a high chance the Tiggo 8 CSH will be priced competitively to reach more buyers. Considering that the current prices of PHEV models in Indonesia are still above IDR 1 billion, such as the Mazda CX-80 PHEV and Toyota RAV4 PHEV.

There are a number of advantages offered by Chery. Besides the price, the battery capacity of the Tiggo 8 CSH is claimed to be the largest in its class.

“Its energy value is quite large, and it has pure electric driving mode capability,” said Eko Fachruroji, Product Planning Manager of PT CSI in PIK, North Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/04).

The power storage embedded in the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH has a capacity of 18.3 kWh. Without gasoline assistance, this SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) can support a journey of up to 90 km on a single charge.

For comparison, the Toyota RAV4 GR Sport PHEV uses an 18.1 kWh battery while the Mazda CX-80 PHEV has a 17.8 kWh one. Chery's sub-brand, Jaecoo J7 PHEV, has a battery with the same capacity as the Tiggo 8 CSH at 18.3 kWh.
