KatadataOTO – Aito, a brand acquired by Seres, previously showcased one of its products in Indonesia, the M9.

With prototype status, the Aito M9 in its home country is a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) resulting from a collaboration with the technology company Huawei.

It was recently revealed that the Aito M9 will undertake an overland tour from China to Indonesia to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and China.

“This signifies that this industry will enter Indonesia, producing in Indonesia for the ASEAN market. Therefore, the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing fully supports it,” said Djauhari Oratmangun, the Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia, as quoted by Antara some time ago.

Referring to the information on its official website, the Aito M9 is available in Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) variants.

The EREV is similar to a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), but it offers a longer pure electric range and is claimed to be more fuel-efficient.

If it enters Indonesia, the Aito M9 will be the first EREV marketed to consumers.

Indeed, PHEV technology itself is starting to be repopularized by Chinese brands. However, looking at Seres' current product line in Indonesia, it seems the pure electric version is more likely to be introduced.
